From hospitality to airport leader – meet Nikea Wilson – our latest 100 Women in Operations feature.
As part of the NAWO 100 Women in Operations campaign, we’re shining a light on women whose career journeys break the mould and inspire others to see what’s possible in operational roles. Today we celebrate Nikea Wilson, ITP Manager – Air Refuel at BP Australia, whose path into aviation started with an unexpected suggestion and has since become a story of growth, leadership, and passion for her team.
Nikea’s journey into aviation was anything but ordinary. With a background in hospitality and psychology, she never pictured herself behind the wheel of a fuel truck or on an airport ramp. But a chance conversation while working in a café sparked a leap into the unknown – one that changed her life.
From her very first shift as a refueller, Nikea was captivated by the scale and energy of aviation operations. She embraced the challenges, quickly built her skills, and rose to become Supervisor of the Brisbane team. Not long after, she stepped into the role of ITP Manager at Melbourne Airport – leading one of the busiest teams in the network.
In just over five years, Nikea has gone from newcomer to trusted leader. She now heads a team she describes as “the best a manager could ask for,” creating space for others to thrive and bringing new people into the industry. Aviation, she says, is in her blood now – and she’s committed to helping shape its future.
Nominated for:
- Her inspiring journey into Air BP airport operations in Brisbane, where she was one of the first female refuellers.
- Embracing every opportunity to develop and grow – overcoming self-doubt along the way – and now leading Melbourne operations with outstanding results.
- Being an exceptional leader who is passionate about developing others, helping them find their voice, and supporting them to achieve their goals.
Join us in celebrating Nikea as part of the NAWO 100 Women in Operations campaign – congratulations Nikea!
