NAWO’s 100 Women in Operations campaign celebrates the achievements of women excelling in operational roles and aims to increase visibility of diverse career pathways. It also highlights the organisations creating inclusive opportunities in historically male-oriented industries.
Today, we celebrate Hannah Lockie from Sydney Water as one of those women and welcome her to NAWO’s 100 Women in Operations wall of fame!
Hannah has built a diverse and accomplished career in engineering, spanning over 20 years across wastewater, chemical processing, and major infrastructure delivery. Starting out as a process engineer, she spent 14 years deeply immersed in the science of wastewater biology, developing her technical expertise while working in a range of complex operational environments.
Her career has taken her across the globe – from Singapore and Dubai to France, Namibia, Sweden, Peru, and remote parts of Australia – where she thrived on collaborating with operators and learning from different approaches to solving technical and environmental challenges.
Now as Project Engineering Director at Sydney Water, Hannah brings that breadth of experience to projects that deliver essential water and wastewater infrastructure to the community. Her work spans every stage of project delivery – from engineering design and business cases to environmental approvals and on-site construction – with a strong focus on collaboration, problem-solving, and finding opportunity in complexity.
Nominated for:
- Her exceptional technical expertise and innovative approach to solving complex engineering challenges – especially when it comes to delivering upgrades to treatment plants of all types and sizes.
- Successfully navigating the intricate balance of environmental compliance, evolving technical demands, and long-term asset performance
- Driving sustainable, future-focused outcomes by integrating carbon reduction and cost efficiency into every project.
From wastewater biology to leading major infrastructure projects – Hannah’s career is proof that curiosity and problem-solving can take you anywhere!
Congratulations, Hannah, for being recognised as one of NAWO’s 100 Women in Operations!
