Come and see how Hydro Tasmania transforms water into electricity at Trevallyn Power Station in Launceston!
About Trevallyn Power Station
Just five kilometres from Launceston’s centre, Trevallyn has been generating power since 1955. This run-of-river station utilises daily river flows to generate electricity via four giant turbines, with a combined generating capacity of 95.8 megawatts (128,500 hp) of electricity. The station output is estimated to be 492 gigawatt-hours each year, with sophisticated valves immediately upstream of each turbine facilitating water shut-off as required for maintenance and security purposes.
This fascinating event includes:
- A guided tour led by the two first-ever female operators to work at the site! Learn how they manage the maintenance of the turbines safely and what’s involved in keeping a site of this magnitude running 24/7.
- Insights into Hydro Tasmania’s Gender Equality Strategy
- A career story from a current female operator trainee.
- Morning tea and open discussion on inclusion and opportunity.
What to bring:
Please wear a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, and closed-toe shoes. Additional PPE will be provided on the day.
