Join NAWO’s Regional QLD Committee for this exclusive tour of Orica’s Yarwun plant and learn about innovative emissions reduction technology. You’ll also get the chance to hear from a diverse panel of engineers about their career journeys and experiences working in operations:
- Selena Anderson, Safety and Risk Superintendent
- Anna Russell, Senior Process Engineer
- Bertus Loew, Cyanide Operations Superintendent
- Angus Costopoulis, Graduate Engineer
For over 35 years, the Yarwun Plant has played a vital role in shaping Gladstone’s industrial landscape, providing skilled jobs and advancing chemical manufacturing in the region. The site includes three nitric acid plants, two ammonium nitrate plants, an emulsion plant, and a sodium cyanide manufacturing facility.
In 2024, Yarwun marked a major milestone for decarbonisation with the installation of two tertiary abatement units – reducing annual site greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 50%. Don’t miss your chance to hear from the female engineers involved in the installation of this technology.
This is your chance to see operations at Yarwun up close! Registrations are now open if you’d like to secure your spot.
Please note: as participants will be touring a working facility there are strict PPE and safety requirements for this event. All attendees will need to wear their own non-black steel cap safety boots (the colour is important), and long-sleeve shirts and full-length trousers. Visitors will also need to complete a short private medical form on arrival at the site that will be reviewed by Orica’s nurse. Please also note that the site is not accessible, so unfortunately this event may not be appropriate if you have mobility restrictions. If you have questions about the requirements, please get in touch at [email protected]
