Benevolent sexism is the phenomenon where men offer women specific courtesies in the name of chivalry. Although widely accepted, benevolent sexism is problematic because it assumes that women are inherently less capable and more sensitive than men.

Research indicates that benevolent sexism makes women feel incompetent, less respected at work by their peers, and at times, in danger. So, while uncomfortable, we do need to talk about benevolent sexism.

We’re thrilled to explore benevolent sexism with guest speaker Beatrice Alba, researcher, academic and author and a gender diverse panel from our network!
