Flexible work is one of the most powerful tools available to organisations seeking to improve gender balance and create more sustainable, people centered workplaces. In July, our Nine Dials learning series takes a closer look at Dial 2: Flexible Work, examining how thoughtful design and consistent implementation of flexibility can support employees to thrive while meeting operational needs.

Flexible work is one of the most talked-about topics in operations—and one of the hardest to get right. This session is a practical conversation between two leaders on what it takes to embed flexibility that sticks.

What you’ll take away

  • A clearer understanding of how to apply flexibility fairly across different roles and team structures.
  • Practical approaches to building a culture where flexible work is genuinely supported, not just permitted.
  • Strategies to address common barriers and misconceptions that get in the way of flexible practices.
  • Insight into how Dial 2 connects across the Nine Dials framework, influencing job design, recruitment, career development and the retention of women and gender diverse employees.

About this session

Louise Weine will be in conversation with Sharnie Curnow, Senior Consultant at Shilo, who brings direct experience implementing flexible work in large organisations including Bendigo Bank.

Sharnie is a senior transformation leader with more than 24 years’ experience helping organisations solve complex business challenges through strategy, change and execution. Today, she works with CEOs and executive teams to strengthen organisational capability, improve execution discipline and deliver sustainable change in complex environments.

Together they’ll explore the practical realities of flexible work: what different arrangements look like, how to lead them well, and what it takes to embed flexibility in ways that work for individuals, teams and the business.

As always, the focus is on insights and actions you can start using straight away.

About NAWO’s ‘Tuning into the Nine Dials’ sessions

NAWO’s Nine Dials for Gender Balance outline the areas we know can ‘turn the dial’ on gender balance in operations. Each month we’ll be exploring a Dial in detail, starting with a deep dive session on the first Thursday of the month. These online events will focus on what organisations can do to ‘turn up’ the dial, and how NAWO can support.
