Each year, Equal Pay Day serves as an important reminder that women in Australia must work additional days into the new financial year to earn the same average pay as men. Typically falling in August, this national moment highlights the ongoing importance of transparent, fair and proactive approaches to pay equity. This month our Nine Dials learning series focuses on Dial 1: Equitable Pay, exploring how organisations can build remuneration systems that actively identify and address gender based inequities.

This session will examine the structures, processes and decision making patterns that influence pay outcomes, and how regular, evidence informed reviews can support a fairer and more consistent approach across roles and levels. We will explore the importance of transparency, the role leaders play in creating trust, and the practical steps organisations can take to ensure pay practices uphold equity over time.

Participants will also consider how progress on Dial 1 supports broader systemic change across the Nine Dials framework, including recruitment, succession, job design and the advancement of women and gender diverse employees. As with all sessions in this series, the focus will be on practical tools and achievable actions that you can apply in your own workplace.

About NAWO’s ‘Tuning into the Nine Dials’ sessions

NAWO’s Nine Dials for Gender Balance outline the areas we know can ‘turn the dial’ on gender balance in operations. Each month we’ll be exploring a Dial in detail, starting with a deep dive session on the first Thursday of the month. These online events will focus on what organisations can do to ‘turn up’ the dial, and how NAWO can support.
