Inclusion programs have become more mainstream in the Australian workforce since the historic marriage equality referendum in 2017. However, surveys conducted have shown that people in the workforce still have negative attitude towards people in the LGBTQIA+ community and would be less likely to support them if they experienced discrimination at work.

This Pride Month, we’re partnering with PROGRAMMED|PERSOLKELLY for an impactful training that aims to familiarise our network with the concepts of gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation. Our training has been carefully planned to cater for a safe environment where questions and thoughtful conversation are encouraged, all while ensuring respectful communication.

The training will be delivered by Ellie Watts, Senior Relationship Manager with Pride in Diversity, who is deeply knowledgeable on all aspects of LGBTQIA+ inclusion.

Key Objectives of this event include:

  • Understanding the case for LGBTQIA+ inclusion and why it is important in a workplace context
  • Being introduced to LGBTQIA+ terms and identities, pronouns and inclusive language
  • Understanding the key concepts and diversity of sex, gender, gender expression and sexual orientation
  • Learning some introductory actions individuals can take to be an active ally and create a more inclusive workplace culture

Event format

  • 12:30 PM- 12:35 PM  Introduction
  • 12:35 PM – 1:15 PM   Ellie’s training session
  • 1:15 PM – 1:25  PM    Breakout room discussion with other attendees
  • 1:25 PM – 1:30 PM    Closing remarks and end
